Hatsuhinode (はつひので or 初日の出) means the first sunrise [of the year] in Japanese.
Ancient Japanese believed that Sun is one of thousand gods. And it was the most important God. Japanese, then, think it's very sacred to see and pray to the 1st sunrise of the year. Then now, Many Japanese go to the beach or climb mountain to witness the first sunrise of the year.
