50th Hanzaki Matsuri Live Cast

Yubara Onsen (Hot Spring) is located in Okayama, 3~4 hours away from Osaka and Hiroshima.

Yubara Onsen has over 1,500 years of history since Kofun period. Yubara Onsen was surrounded by good steal mines. It was supposed to be the relaxing place among steal workers in ancient times.

In 1977, the public open-air bath of Yubara was ranked the best "Roten Buro" (open-air bath) among West Japan, and gained the popularity among Onsen-goers of Japan.

Now Yubara Onsen is one of the popular resorts among the people in Chugoku region (around Hiroshima & Okayama).

What is Hanzaki

In Japanese, Giant Salamandar is usually called "Ohsansho-uo". However, the people in Yubara called it "Hanzaki" because the ancient people said that monster salamandar was able to live even they are ripped half. Hanzaki means "ripped in half".

Hanzaki Matsuri

Hanzaki Matsuri may be originated during 1400, or 1500s. There is the fairy tale that one guy killed a monster giant salamander. However he and his family was cursed to death. The people decided to hold the festival to calm the Giant Salamander.

Hanzaki Matsuri (Giant Salamandar Festival) will be celebrating 50th anniversaty on Monday, August 8, 2011.

The live cast is scheduled to divided into 3 parts.We'll introduce Yubara Onsen, Hanzaki Matsuri and how to enjoy Onsen and etc. Most of all, relax, enjoy and feel the cozy Japanese summer festival.
